Some impressive rates of student growth have been reported for 2015-16: 62% of CMS Opportunity Culture schools exceeded student growth expectations. This compares to 51% of non-Opportunity Culture schools in the district. Opportunity Culture is a school distributive leadership model where teacher-leaders provide in-depth coaching to fellow teachers, and strong teachers reach more students. Opportunity Culture was first launch in Project LIFT, a turnaround initiative in nine schools in West Charlotte, and now 30 additional schools across the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district are participating.

We’re pleased about these results, but also committed to improving Opportunity Culture further.
